King and Lionheart–Of Monsters and Men

Monday, April 28th, 2014

In this animated video that shows the love being separated between mother and child as both go to different sides of this Gorillaz look-a-like world. They are separated and the child is united with a purple light that shows the child to the “brighter” side of the world. The video is pretty unique in a way that it shows the Gorillaz trend of not showing band members in the video. Of Monsters and Men have been one of my favorite bands this past year and have shown up on charts all around the world with “ Little Talks”. They are a band who only plays at music festivals big and small including Coachella, WakaRusa, Edgefest, and many more. I cannot wait to see what else this band from Iceland produce in the future. Twerk team, another song that you would slosh your beer around to at a music festival or at a small party.

The Chain–Ingrid Michaelson

Monday, April 28th, 2014

“And promise not to promise anymore, and if you come around again, then I will take the chain off of the door…” I have always been a fan of Ingrid Michaelson. The first song I heard was “You and I” back in 2009 and I was in love with the melodic voices that her and her band make with piano-influenced rhythms. It is 2:55 and I still have this song on repeat, and I just got done sobbing due to the lyrical words that are put in the song by Michaelson. I love to be moved by music and I have been on a dry spell lately until I heard “Chain” on Pandora.  I am not quite sure why I have never heard this song until now, but I can say I am so very excited to see this beautiful artist perform live at “The Hangout” music festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama this summer. Twerk team, Ingrid Michaelson is not what we are usually used to getting down to, but when you are having that moment where you want to cuddle and watch the rain fall as if you were in a music video; listen to this.Image

Hey Brother–Avicii

Monday, April 28th, 2014

This video will make your lonely night even lonelier with tears and Milky Way wrappers surrounding you. It depicts two boys growing up in wartime America. There are pictures and clips of the Vietnam War interspersed in the video. At the end it is revealed that the younger boy imagines his father (who died in the Vietnam War) as the older brother he never had. The song is done by the ever so steamy Swedish DJ and producer, Avicii. Yes, the same dude who released my old fave, “Wake Me Up”. The song was released to an Australian radio show late last year. Those lovely vocals belong to Salem Al Fakir. The video and song come close to the heart especially if you just got out of the drive thru of Taco Bell for the second time in one day….alone. Go home girl, and listen to Avicii. Twerk team, you know what to do…just let no one see the evidence of T-Bell trash or Milky Ways.

TImber–Pitbull Ft. Kesha

Monday, April 28th, 2014

The ever so sleazy and not at all sexy Ke$ha is out of rehab and took the internet, YouTube, and radio stations by contact with this slutty version of the wild, wild west inspired video for Pitbull’s song “Timber”. Oh did I mention the 305 Latino man himself is rapping throughout the song? You guessed it, you cannot understand a word he says in the song besides some random numbers. The video is set in a old western saloon and incorporates Ke$ha in a scandalous Daisy Duke and cowboy boots outfit that makes her look like she literally just got out of rehab before the filming of the video. The video also incorporates beach scenes of Kesha wading in the water like a nautical animal. Twerk team, the song is overplayed and you are probably done with it as much as I am. #ByeFelica.

Best Day of My Life –American Authors

Monday, April 28th, 2014

The music video was released on October 18, 2013 via YouTube. The video was filmed in Brooklyn, New York [cue “No Sleep Till Brooklyn”]. It depicts a man engaging in various activities with a large furry monster such as drinking in a bar [YES], playing basketball, looking at the Brooklyn Bridge, getting matching tattoos, visiting a strip club, and going to a playground. At the end of the video it is revealed that the monster is his imaginary friend and the bartender finds a photo of the two. The video is super strange, but the song is not bad at all. The song is one to listen to on the way to work on a Monday, or a Tuesday, or a Wednesday…well every day of the week, because work sucks. Twerk team, take advantage of the life you live especially if it includes drinking beer with a furry creature from this video. #TotalFratMove

Turn Down for What–DJ Snake ft. Lil Jon

Monday, April 28th, 2014

The ever so famous “Drank In My Cup” rapper Lil Jon has done it again with the help of his cray clan DJ Snake and other majestic rappers who have a way with words and alcohol. In the video the viewer experiences what happens when one “turns up”, full of breasts flying up and down, a Chinese man’s genitals moving to the beat to the music, and other normal things that would occur if one go too “turnt” in the club. The video is a collaboration of inappropriate gestures and dancing, the norm for Lil Jon and DJ Snake. My personal experience with the song is that I play it in my car to wake up if I am driving long distances; I usually swerve around the highway on accident because the beat gets me going so hard, just like the characters in the video. Twerk team, use your classy ways to get turnt up, but never turn down. (So philosophic of me, maybe it is this chai latte that is making me turn my ways?)

NEVER turn down, guys.

Not a Bad Thing–Justin Timberlake

Monday, April 28th, 2014

As we all know Justin Timberlake and I are getting together as soon as he completes the Japanese leg of this international tour. So excited. JT has had such a year with the success with his “20/20 Experience” tour and album. “You find love and then you lose love, and then you have to work to find it again. And then you lose it.” The quote is used in the video for JT’s new song, “Not A Bad Thing” a song about finding love and keeping it as close to you as possible. The video captures a variety of couples telling how they found love and how they have kept it. The video captures the chronicles of a man who used JT’s song to propose to his love on a train. The final thought of the video is that marriage and eternal love is not always a “bad thing”, and that JT will probably propose to me on a bus. Twerk team, JT is our idol. Cherish each other. Love. Live. Drink.

The Man–Aloe Blacc

Monday, April 28th, 2014

Yes I do feel like an athlete in a locker room before the last home game of the season while I listen to this song. Aloe Blacc brings soul and a gospel vibe to the Billboard charts, in which he has been on for 16 weeks now. In the video, Blacc shows leadership through adversity while he goes back in time and gives light on sensitive African-American political and social problems of the 60’s, 70’s, and the 80’s. Examples being, Muhammad Ali’s release from prison and Selma to Montgomery March. Blacc shows leadership and light on this issues as a black man using the past as motivation for the future through song and lyrics to this gospel inspired song. Twerk team, I would recommend listening to this song before and after taking an exam in your hardest class. Walk out with courage, people.

Let it Go–Frozen Soundtrack

Monday, April 28th, 2014

By now we are all too familiar with the soundtrack and the lyrics to the Disney musical “Frozen”, but “Let It Go” has taken charts and radio stations by surprise by playing a musical number from a children’s film. It has been on the charts for 18 weeks, but never going higher than the number 5 spot. If you haven’t seen the musical, you need to, it is absolutely adorable and makes you want to sing the songs in your car on your way to work. Despite what John Travolta says about IDINA MENZEL the song is full of life and has even been playing at in the Chambers Caf here at ATU and a plethora of students are lip syncing the words while they eat and study with friends!  Twerk team, the song is not one to request at the club, but one to clean your room and “sing” to.

Talk Dirty–Jason Derulo

Monday, April 28th, 2014

Derulo has done it again! The song “Talk Dirty” has taken clubs, radio stations, and charts by a raunchy sleazy storm. The video incorporates a variety of girls from different cultures and show their dance moves and how the talk dirty via dance and fashion, that is why the song is literally popular in every country. Derulo has been on charts with this hip thrusting song for 14 consecutive weeks. In addition to the popularity of the song Jason has his shirt off for the ENTIRE video and is blessing the viewers with his picture perfect body. His wife, Jordin Sparks better not get jealous of that because we all know she is getting it anytime she wants it. Twerk team, youkthe lyrics, let it go on the floor with your dirty martini in your left hand!

Talk to dirty to me, Oscar Meyer.
