Waiting for Superman—Daughtry

Isn’t super hard to believe that Christopher Daughtry did not win American Idol? All his songs are amazing with the perfect touch of lyrical genius. In the video, a homeless guy is fighting crime in the city and gets accused of the crime twice, which is funny. He saves a man who is about to commit suicide, hunts down a man who has stolen a woman’s purse, and fought off bullies. The video is cute and all, but the real reason for the 1,000,000 views it has gotten on YouTube is Chris himself. He is to die for, so dreamy, and perfect. Daughtry is often mistakenly believed to be a Chris Daughtry solo project; however – in a manner similar to Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Dokken, and Dio – Daughtry is a band, taking Chris Daughtry’s surname as their moniker. In an interview, he explained, “We could’ve come out with a really obscure name, but coming from the TV show and having name recognition, it was easier just to go with my last name.” He also joked, “Steel Dragon would have been great. Rainbow Butt Monkeys would have also been great, but that was taken.” Twerk team, be on the look out for more music by Daughtry and the lead singer, of course.

Love Me Again–John Newman

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013

Image

This song though. If you enjoy unfortunate looking people, high school dances from the 90s, and high waisted pants on men; you will love this video. John Newman is so hard to look at, from that awful hair, his voice, and outfit of choice. The song has been blowing up my Sirus XM radio top hits station for the past week, I am livid. If anyone wants to pull of the 70’s classic suit up look, it is Justin Timberlake not John Newman. Where did this guy even come from, you ask? UK, they have the most ugly people. The song is horrible. The video is worse. Enjoy. Twerk team, just, no.

What Now–Rihanna

Rihanna’s new hit single, “What Now” has people guessing what the video and the song is about. In the video there are clips of a cross on fire, chains (not whips), and other strange clips that involve Rihanna having contortions over in the video. The song came out at a perfect and mature time, the end of a year full of violence, rights being violated, and mistrust. The song is a slow dubstep song that is very powerful , especially what Rihanna is wearing, or lack of. In a maxi dress, wearing her hair as a mullet, and gaudy nails that look they are from a different time era shows off that Rihanna is wanting attention to this song and the lyrics. Twerk team, we love Rihanna, but this one is on the fence.

Brave–Sara Barellies

Sara Bareilles usually sings about love songs, falling out of love, and more things about love. But, in her new single, “Brave” she incorporates a dance and people from all different walks of life in her video. The song itself can get one pumped for any occasion and will make you think twice about dancing in public. Bareilles has been one to not show off any outrageous outfits or any other attention getters for fame, she uses her music and lyrics. Her songs are so powerful they have been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, So You Think You Can Dance, and other publically known television sitcoms. The song has been sitting at the top 20 spot on Billboard for weeks now and the video has gotten more than 12,000,000 views on YouTube. Twerk team, if you dance in public Sara Bareilles wants to see how big your brave is.

Slow Down–Selena Gomez

Can we all agree that ever since “Springbreakers” came out Selena Gomez has been extra sensual and more into her music than ever? Gomez’s new hit “ Slow Down” features a classy Selena riding in a Rolls Royce drying humping the car seat and singing. Then she arrives at the club and suddenly everyone loves her. The song is super catchy and might include people judging you, but you can say that Selena is not a witch from Wizerdly Place anymore. She is a hot commodity and she is off to rule to world, especially after the Selena/Justin break up that tore the world into shreds. The song features the popular group “The Cadaracks” who do all the background music; the Cadracks are a girl version of Calvin Harris. Twerk team, forget Disney and experience the new Gomez of Selenas.

Sunny and 75–Joe Nicholas

We all know I am not the biggest country fan, but I know a good song when I hear one. Joe Nicholas and I go back, I met him a Applebees in Branson, MO and have fell in love with those lips every since. In his video for his new single, “Sunny and 75” he does not take off his shirt which is a big complaint of mine, and the girl in the video looks 16. The song is a song you would hear at a party that I would attend back in high school with all my country/redneck classmates hosting. The song is catchy and it ALMOST wants me to change my drink order from a vodka cran to a tall glass of classless beer. Twerk team, do not let those country boys rule your bar.

Hold On, We’re Going Home–Drake

Club, hoes, booze, and “Taken 3” is the message that Drake’s video for his new single conveys. Starting with a group of look a likes from Degrassi (I wish) having a reunion in a club and then Drake gets a phone call saying his girl has been kidnapped. I was not thrilled when watching finding out that Taken 3 was only going to be 4:36 minutes, but the video continued with Drake rapping; I was fine with this. As the video progressed, the group of people go to Drake’s crib and get guns and start walking out to find the kidnapped girl, similar to the acting Liam Nelson did in Taken, HA! The video continues with Drake shooting games that include doing math equations to name, and that is why I am thankful this holiday season; Drake shooting guns is fine with me. So, just like any other rap video the girl is found and they make love and it is done. Twerk team, Degrassi is still the best thinking that Drake really did start from the bottom of a wheelchair.

Let Her Go–Passenger

Oh man, this is a song that needs to be played when half the party is passed out and the ones who aren’t are stumbling around a 520 square inch apartment, it will make you cry. The video shows off Passenger’s fans in the crowd of a concert and shows what the band does in preparation of a show. Even though the lead singer, Michael Rosenburg has been in 5 bands since 2008, he is certain that with the release of his new album with “Passenger” will bring success to him and his fan base. Turns out he is right since his song, “Let Her Go” is in the top 10 in over 16 countries currently and with over 144,000,000 views on YouTube I think he is doing just fine. Twerk team, it is not our regular Justin Timberlake dry hump song, but it will make you smile.

Story of My Life–One Direction

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

Image

Twerk team, we all know I am the biggest boy band fan, like ever. From Backstreet, Nsync, Jonas, and more; but I will not be a “Directioner”. I mean of course their first song was catchy and I would do the occasional car jam out to the song, “That’s What Makes You Beautiful”. This song means nothing to me, especially when famous people start to complain how stressful their lives are, you are famous! This song is one of those songs that annoy me. Oh and since we are all complaining here, Harry, get a damn haircut your haircut style does not have to reflect your name. In the video for this annoying song, old pictures cascade the band members pictures and images from current events. “So perfect” is what some Directioners may say, but I say, “So pathetic”. I am begging people to STOP requesting this song on the radio. Twerk team, One Direction is not for us, ‘cause we want it our wayyyyy.

Say Something–A Great Big World

BAND TO WATCH! The video really shows that the band is serious about their music and what they stand for, love. The video shows different scenarios in which all relate to the subject of losing someone. Rather sad, but good luck trying to not laugh at Christina Aguilara motions when she touches her face about 100 times in 3 minutes. The song was originally released on February 8, 2013 on band member Ian Axel’s solo album This Is the New Year but went largely unnoticed until it was released as the second single on the band’s debut studio album, Is There Anybody Out There? (2014), on September 9, 2013. The single was re-recorded again to feature vocals from American recording artist Christina Aguilera, after she heard the song and loved it. The version featuring Aguilera was released on November 4, 2013. Twerk team, be on the look out for new songs from “A Great Big World”.
